Clearing-House Mechanism - U. N. Convention on Biological Diversity - From the start of the Convention, it was understood that scientific knowledge and technological know-how would have a vital role to play. However, expertise in managing information and technology varies enormously from country to country. For this reason, the Convention established a 'Clearing-House Mechanism' to ensure that all governments have access to the information and technologies they need for their work on biodiversity. The Clearing-House promotes and facilitates technical and scientific cooperation, within and between countries, develops a global mechanism for exchanging and integrating information on biodiversity and develops the necessary human and technological network

InterAmerican Biodiversity Information Network (IABIN) - Both an Internet-based information resource with common
infrastructure and content, interoperable through the use of common standards, and a forum for institutions and individuals to discuss the issues related to sharing and exchange of biodiversity
information. IABIN is envisioned as an open, self-sustaining network where users needing biodiversity information can find quality, relevant information in a timely manner. It is part of the
growing network for global cooperation and information-sharing which is the Clearing-House Mechanism of the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Wildlife Conservation Society - Belize focuses in four general areas. First, WCS works closely with the Belize government on national initiatives with a focus on biodiversity planning and policy strategies. Second, WCS conducts jaguar density studies using camera traps in order to better understand populations and document the importance of Gallon Jug Estate, the Selva Maya, and Cockscomb Basin as havens for biodiversity in northern Central America. Third, through innovative research and mentoring young biologists from the region, WCS strives to conserve bats within critical habitats in the Selva Maya landscape by identifying at-risk species. Finally, WCS researchers based at Glover's Reef carry out marine conservation activities in Belize and beyond.
WCS and BAS have collaborated on the Belize Biodiversity Information System (BBIS), the longest running biodiversity database in Belize. WCS has begun to integrate the 400,000+ data records from the BBIS into BERDS. This integration should take approximately 6 months and be completed by Q2 2007.
