Mapping:
BERDS has fully integrated mapping capabilities throughout the system:
- The largest assemblage of spatial data is found within the Map Explorer Application - providing visual and text access to over 30 accurate and up-to-date spatial layers including climate, freshwaters, environment, people and society, LANDSAT imagery and specimen collections data as well as a unique visual-based search facility.
- Beyond the Map Explorer, In-line maps are generated on-the-fly for ecosystems, protected areas, watersheds, species distributions, specimen localities, field stations, hydrologic metering systems, etc throughout the entire site
- Spatial integration is not limited to just 'visual mapping services.' BERDS employs spatial data throughout the system to provide real-time spatial overlay analysis of any data. This functionality delivers the most accurate and up-to-date information available on underlying physiographic characteristics, habitats and species distributions. This information is automatically adjusted as new data are added to the BERDS system.
