Digital settlements point data were created using various
sources: International Travelers Map of Belize (1:350.000)
and 2001 CSO Abstract of Statistics + own point data.
Purpose:
The dataset was developed to aid in the Conservation
Planning of Belize.
Supplemental_Information:
These data are not to be taken as legal defenitions of
names, settlements or their location. Preferential Scale 1:350.000

DATA_QUALITY_INFORMATION
Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
Data based on 1:350.000 travelers map, most but not all
locations were ground truthed. Not all communities have a
real "center". Specifically, farming communities such as
Spanish Lookout, Shipyard, Little Belize, El Progresso,
Pine Hill are spread out over a large area. The point
"center" in these cases is indicative only.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
Not all data come from the same source, not all data were
ground truthed but a high level of consistency can be assumed.
Completeness_Report:
New settlements pop up continuously in Belize. Some even
disappear over time. This file should be regarded as a work
in progress.

Population data based on year 2000 populations census

Process_Description:
Data were generated on screen over a digitized and
geo-referenced copy of the Belize International Travelers
Map. Using the 2001 CSO statistics report population
figures were entered for each settlement (not all
communities recognized in census). Some newer communities
or communities not previously mapped were added based on
personal GIS data points
