Want to Contribute Data to BERDS?:
The Biodiversity & Environmental Resource Data System is an initiative designed to serve the needs of the biodiversity and environmental research community in Belize.
In order to make this initiative a success, BERDS needs the support and participation of relevant organisations within and outside of Belize.
Only through collaborative effort can this system hope to meet its objectives and provide the most comprehensive and accurate knowledge base possible.
When you contribute data, your data is tagged with standardised metadata to ensure your ownership of said data is intact. This allows your organisation to share its data with the confidence in knowing that data is being properly attributed to your institution, at all times. Learn More
"Contribute once, share a lot" - our data sharing system allows your organisation to contribute its data records once to the system and that data can then be shared with other national, regional or even international initiatives without additional effort on your part. This allows your institution to maximise its data entry efforts - entering data into BERDS once guarantees your data is shared as widely (and safely) as possible with a minimum of effort on your part.
Additionally, you have complete control and anytime access to edit, delete or backup any or all of your organisation's data.
BERDS recognises two types of data contributors:
- Data Providers
- Sponsoring Members
BERDS Data Providers are active members of the Belize environmental community that have data to share that would be of value to the community. In exchange for such data contributions, BERDS Data Providers are given special access to information and features on BERDS including a self-management data entry facility, access to private community forums, data report generation facilities and data export and backup facilities, free of charge. BERDS Sponsoring Members have all the rights and benefits of Data Providers but for an annual financial contribution, BERDS Sponsoring Members gain access to information and features that have been customised for the needs of their organisation. These additional features include:- a customised version of the Map Explorer application (using member GIS layers and monitoring data along with all BERDS layers and data)
- access to a personal site monitoring database
- private library catalog
- advanced data export and backup utilities
- private web and email forums
- webmail
- etc...

BERDS User Permissions - User permissions concerning accessing public and private data are as follows:
- The 'general public' can view only PUBLIC data.
- Data Providers can view PUBLIC data and their own PRIVATE data
- Members, can view all data; PUBLIC and PRIVATE
