Use of Contributions:
BERDS contributors generally keep the copyright for content submitted to BERDS and they grant BERDS non-exclusive, royalty-free, and full rights to use submitted materials. Upon submission of a contribution (e.g., a document or an image), a BERDS participant can currently choose between two distinct options for contributions.
- BERDS use only
- If you select this option, your data can be published only on the BERDS web site.
- Use on BERDS and share with other initiatives
- This option covers all BERDS use detailed in Option 1. In addition, it allows BERDS to share materials with select, non-commercial, scientific or educational initiatives that BERDS has formal data sharing arrangements with. This means that your data record (as metadata) may be exported to the databases of BERDS partner initiatives, and they may be displayed on the web sites of these initiatives. Note that BERDS does not share materials with commercial content providers. Also, BERDS requires collaborating projects to always credit authors and copyright owners when displaying materials imported from BERDS.
- We encourage BERDS contributors to choose this option in order to maximize the dissemination of their materials through not-for-profit national, regional and global initiatives, and to participate to the fullest in an emerging, international community of scientific and educational content providers.
